1. Our Belief About Giving
At The Well of Pensacola, we believe giving is an act of worship, not a legalistic requirement. We do not teach a fixed 10% tithe as a binding New Testament command. Instead, we teach that all giving should flow from a heart transformed by grace—given freely, joyfully, and intentionally to advance the Kingdom of God.
2. Why We Don’t Practice Old Testament Tithing
The tithe (meaning “tenth”) was an Old Covenant law given to Israel for the support of the Temple, Levites, and festivals (Leviticus 27:30–32; Numbers 18:21–24; Deuteronomy 14:22–29).
Under the New Covenant in Christ:
- The temple system was fulfilled in Jesus (John 2:19–21; Hebrews 9:11–15).
- Believers are now the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16).
- There is no command in the New Testament for Christians to give a fixed percentage.
Instead, the New Testament model is Spirit-led generosity.
3. The New Testament Model for Giving
The Apostle Paul taught:
- Giving is voluntary and Spirit-led — “Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity” (2 Corinthians 9:7, NKJV).
- Giving is proportional — “…according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have” (2 Corinthians 8:12).
- Giving is generous and sacrificial — modeled after Christ Himself (2 Corinthians 8:9).
- Giving supports Kingdom work — helping the poor, supporting gospel workers, and funding ministry (Philippians 4:14–18; 1 Timothy 5:17–18).
4. How We Encourage Giving Here
We invite believers to:
- Pray First — Ask God how He wants you to give.
- Give Willingly — No pressure, no guilt, no manipulation.
- Give Regularly — Build a habit of generosity.
- Give Generously — According to God’s blessing in your life.
- Give Joyfully — See it as a privilege, not a burden.
5. Where the Giving Goes
Your giving fuels:
- Local Outreach & Evangelism — Sharing the Gospel in Pensacola and beyond.
- Recovery & Discipleship — Helping people find freedom through The Quest to Become Recovered.
- Missions & Church Planting — Spreading the Kingdom locally and globally.
- Meeting Needs — Caring for widows, orphans, the poor, and those in crisis.
- Operational Costs — Stewarding resources to keep ministry effective.
6. Safeguards & Accountability
- All giving is handled with financial transparency.
- Spending is overseen by trusted leaders.
- Quarterly reports are made available to the congregation.
- No leader personally profits from offerings outside of agreed salaries (no salaries are being taken at this time).
7. The Heart Behind It
Giving isn’t about “paying God back” or “earning His favor.” It’s a way of saying thank You for what He has already done in Christ. It’s a chance to join in His work and watch Him multiply the impact.
